Welcome to my author newsletter. This fall, we’re offering a two-book giveaway in celebration of the new paperback and e-book versions of The Dragons of Noor, out just in time to gift to your favorite adventurous reader.

~ A dreamwalker who has lost her way. A shape-shifter who fears his own dark power. A fire herd punished for his magic. Can these three teens keep the human world of Noor and the magical world of Oth from splitting apart? ~
“This enchanting tale takes readers on a journey they will neither be able to put down nor forget.” –Teens Read Too Gold Star of Excellence
About The New Release
In this time of great social upheaval, when it feels as if the world is breaking apart under our feet, I kept thinking about the worlds breaking in The Dragons of Noor. The hardback version went out of print when Egmont USA folded, but the story felt timely. It seemed right to offer The Dragons of Noor to a new generation of readers so they could experience the challenges Miles, Hanna, and Taunier face and their adventurous response to adversity. The tale offers hope. We need that now. And of course, being that it’s my tale, there be dragons.

Writer’s Corner
We all have favorite craft books. I return to mine whenever I dive into revision after receiving an editorial letter. Here are two I’m using while revising a new YA Fantasy for an editor.

This is one of my all-time favorite craft books. I’m rereading now and finding new treasure. Plot problems? Character conundrums? Run to this book. My signed copy—thanks to my novelist mother, who treated us to a luncheon with Elizabeth George—is full of Post-it notes. Strongest takeaway — your character must have attitude, which she calls “Tude”.

Anyone who’s met me can tell I’m a peace-loving person. Little do they know how much I love writing Fight Scenes. This gem gives you, the writer, the needed weapons to render any kind of fight scene, from swordplay to modern day.
I’m using it this week to fight off a nasty beast called a Garg. (See Writing Fight Scenes chapter 17, Animals and Weres.) Some of you may read the “Girl vs Garg” fight scene in my future YA novel and root for my resourceful heroine.
